Hey Film fans, please accept my apologies for how long it's been since this page has been updated, but we have been very busy, so let me update you with all the Film Society info....

Firstly, we are still having our weekly screenings ever Tuesday at 7pm in Grimmond, with free popcorn and sweets!

Film making is still going strong, every Thursday From 8pm, we now have about five films in production.

The latest Big Lens issue is online now and looks amazing (check out the link on this page) and the second one is being designed. We are still having funding issues but do not fear, there will be a printed edition by the end of the year!

We are also involved with a student film festival this year at UKC, to find out how you can get involved please e mail me at nc68@kent.ac.uk or Cody at codybaldwin@gmail.com.

Finally, Film Society are on the radio! Tune in to The Film Hour every Wednesday from 6pm until 7pm on 97.4 frequency or listen online at www.csrfm.com

Hallowe'en Celebrations+ more!!

Hey Everyone!

Firstly, thanks to everyone who came to the BFI trip on Sunday, it was really good (check out the reviews page for my reviews of the films!)

Now as i'm sure you're all aware, this Friday is Hallowe'en! So we will be celebrating in true film geek style with a whole day of films for you to cure your hangover...

SATURDAY 1ST NOVEMBER- we are screening films in GLT 1 from 12-10pm! The line up is as follows:

12- Hallowe'en

2.30- A Nightmare on Elm Sreet

5.30- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original of course)

8- The Exorcist

The screenings are free to all members and £2 for anybody else, and there will be FREE popcorn and sweets as usual! Bring your own beer/duvet/person to hide behind

And as if that wasn't enough...

MON 3RD NOVEMBER

We have conquered the campus..... and we are ready to take on the rest of Canterbury!

Come along to 'A Canterbury Tale....', a pilrimage around Canterbury in search of...... erm... alcohol?

Starting at 8pm in the Westgate Spoons (the little one) and ending up in The Works, come and meet everybody and have a good time.

Just a reminder that this Friday is the 'Big Lens, Small Films Festival' starting at 7:30 in the Powell Theatre at Canterbury Christchurch University, showing a series of short films from Film makers around Canterbury.

Prior to this, at 6pm in the Powell Theatre, there is a Film Forum, lead by Screen South, a local production company, and this will be a fantastic opportunity for anybody interested in Film Making.

Tickets to the 'Big Lens, Small Films' are £5, and this gets you into the forum for free!Hope to see you there!

Hello Everyone!

Just a reminder that there is the first of many socials happening this tuesday 14th Oct! Starting at K-Bar at 8pm, we shall crawl around campus ending up at Origins. Look out for the committee, we will all be wearing DVDs around our necks so you can find us!

Also this tuesday, dont forget our next Big Lens meeting starting at 6pm in the Shirley Barlow room in Eliot- don't worry if you didn't make last weeks meeting, you can still come!

Welcome to the Film Society 2008/09!

Hello to all of you that have joined this group! I'm Nia, the President, and there is so much stuff to look forward to this year.

Firstly, this Tuesday is our first Big Lens meeting, starting at 6pm and meeting outside eliot, and anybody who loves writing about film should come along.

Then at 7pm this tuesday in GLT1 we have our first FREE screening of 'Monty Pythons The Life of Brian,' so come along for FREE sweets and popcorn. Feel free to bring your own food and drink but dont make a mess!

Tuesday 14th October is our first social... and its a bar crawl, starting at K Bar at 8pm and ending at Origins, come along to meet other members, and look out for the committee who will be wearing DVDs around our neck so you can recognise us!

Finally, Sunday October 26th is our first trip of the year, to the BFI film festival! Tickets have already been booked, but if you would still like to go, please dont hesitate to contact me at nc68@kent.ac.uk for more info.

Hello Film Fans!

Roaring onto the big screen in GLT1 this coming Sunday are all three films of Steven Spielberg’s magnificent feast of dino-devastation: Welcome to Jurassic Park...

Here’s how the day will roll..

Jurassic Park will start promptly at 10 am (so make sure you’re there for 9:45, no late admission!) and will be followed by a 30 min break.

The Lost World (Jurassic Park II) will start promptly at 12:30 pm (again, no late admission!)

Following this there will be a one hour break for lunch or whatever you want to do.

Jurassic Park III will commence at 3:30 pm (you guessed it, be on time!).

So join us this Sunday whether you’ll be in awe of the technology, swept away by the story, or scared stupid by the dinosaurs. Just remember: We’re not liable for your nightmares! Hell I’d go just to laugh at Jeff Goldblum, he’s in two of them!

FILM, KENT FILM. And we’ve got a Bond-tastic treat for you ‘90s Bond fans: The best of the Brosnans it’s GoldenEye. And it’s screening in GLT1 at 19:00 this Tuesday. Bring your membership card and ID, or if you’ve only just joined bring your ID and we’ll find you on the list.

Monday is of course BIGLENS, and it’s the final deadline for our next issue. So writers: get writing! If you fancy seeing your name in print, come along to Shirley Barlow, Eliot, 19:00, and pitch us an article! We’re also looking for those of you with an artistic side, no not feeding a small pet through a paper shredder and gluing the result to a choc-ice and hanging it in the Tate… we want people who might be interested in designing or learning how to design our magazine. Hello! Hope you’re all having a good weekend.

It’s time for our biggest and best social yet… Sunday the 18^th sees your Kent Film Society teaming up with local media and arts venue Orange Street Music Club to bring you an evening of music, relaxation, a chance to be social, and of course FILM! We will be screening on Orange Street’s big screen some of our best shorts from the last couple of years, plus a premiere screening of the work of some of our Society filmmakers. The evening will also serve as a launch party for the first issue of our Film Magazine: BIGLENS. Orange Street attracts and works with people and organizations dedicated to the promotion of the arts. Come along and network! Maybe you’ve always wanted to make that £5,000 film….

Entrance is free to this event and there’s a good chance of drinks promotions, so make sure you don’t spend Sunday evening sitting in front of the TV with soggy roast leftovers. Arrive from 7PM. SUNDAY should not be forgotten, 7PM at Orange Street Music Club – Film Society extravaganza! We hope to see you there, and bring your friends!

If you’ve paid your subscription to the society you’ll be wanting your membership card. Come along to any of our events this week, or pop by the Orange Street Music Club shortly after 6PM on Wednesday to collect your card. (Student ID required)

BFI Trip

Kent Film offers you the chance to travel to London to attend screenings of two films featured in this year's BFI London Film Festival.

The films are Juno, Jason Reitman's comedy/drama about an unplanned teenage pregnancy; and The Battle for Haditha, Nick Broomfield's docu-drama investigation of the Haditha massacre in Iraq.

We'll be taking you from Campus to London and back by coach, and all you have to pay for is the tickets, which are £18 for the pair.

We plan to leave Canterbury 12:30 - 13:00 on Wednesday 31st. October, and start our return from London at 23:30.

If you'd like a place on this trip, come to Mungo's with cash on Monday 8th. between 10:30 and 13:00 and look for a Kent Film representative.

Note: You will have to have formally joined the Kent Film Society by Friday 12th. to be allowed to participate.

Thank you to all of you who have shown interest in our trip - For you and for those of you that haven't alike, here is some more information about what we are trying to put together.

We are hoping to travel by couch to London at 1pm Wednesday October 31st. Arriving first at the West End Odeon to see 'Juno' (more details can be found here) and then make our way to Rich Mix to see 'Battle for Haditha' (more details can be found here) before being collected and delivered safely back to the university.

The price for the films will be no more than £18, and we're currently in talks about funding for the transportation. Of course we'll let you know as we know.

Welcome (or welcome back) to Kent, and hopefully I can soon welcome you to the Kent Film Society.

You've received this email (hopefully) because you nicely signed up and registered your interest in our society. All you have to do to join is go online and pay our yearly fee of just £5. Sounds easy enough, but thanks to our ever amazing union even the most simple tasks become drawn out troughs of red taped difficulty. I'll remind you of what your £5 buys, and then do the union's job and give you more detailed instructions on how to pay online.

Our first meeting is tomorrow (Tuesday 25th) at 6PM in GLT1, if you've joined or still need some convincing, pop along and we'll introduce you to the society and many wondrous advantages of membership. Have we sold it to you? If so, follow the instructions below:

If you have already registered to the union online, please proceed to step 4.

1. On the kent.ac.uk/student page, click the union logo on the right hand side.

2. Click "Register" and complete the online registration, and follow the link sent to your email inbox.

3. Complete the two red requirements when you arrive at your union profile page.

4. Click "Groups" at the top of the page and select "movies" from the drop down menu on the page that loads.

5. Choose the Film Society and select "Pay your subscription".

6. You'll notice that nothing told you so, but the payment has been added to your basket. Click checkout to continue.

7. Ignore the next few screens, just click through them, don't worry about trying to put your details in here as the system won't let you.

8. Finally, a screen asks you how you wish to pay, follow the instructions, then sit back content in the knowledge that you've just joined the best society on campus. Maybe pour a stiff drink to help you relax after such tedious interaction with the union.

As I type this, our trusty elves are compiling an email list from the terrible terrible handwriting of those who signed up at the fresher's fair (all six hundred plus of you). If all goes well and we don't die due to massive repetitive strain injury, you should receive an email later on today. If you haven't got one by Monday, it means that your writing/our reading was particularly bad and you should email epm2@kent.ac.uk and we'll add you to the list.

Canterbury Student Film Festival

Kent Film Society are happy to announce the 'Canterbury Student Film Festival' on the 12th June 2007 in assocation with Orange Street Music Club.

If you're currently a student in Canterbury and you've made a short film, then please, enter it. It'll be screened in front of an audience and you may very well win something! E-mail pkw2@kent.ac.uk for submission information.

If you haven't made a short film yet, then why don't you make one! We've got a smashing camera and editing equipment you can use for absolutely nothing. To book any of our equipment e-mail our Head of Film-Making (Richard Chambers) at rec4@kent.ac.uk from your KentMail address.

Film Society are elections are going to be on Thursday the 22nd March, at 6pm in Grimond Lecture Theatre 1.

We've already got our new Big Lens editors, that was done through Big Lens meetings.

Bristol Screentest 2007

Calling all UKC film-makers. This is an urgent one. We need your films. Bristol Screentest is upon us, a very very very prestigious student film festival - one which we WON last year. Either way, miscommunication and all this and that have meant we are behind deadline. So, if you want your film to be screened we need you to get in contact with us SOON.

Bristol Screentest is from Friday the 2nd to Sunday the 4th of March. If you're interested in going, contact us, but I can't stress how soon you must do this.

After two years, the Film Society has their very own iMac! I don't know very much about iMac's but I'm told by people better than me that 'it's the best one available', either way, if you're a member of the film society, it's ALL YOURS to borrow for as long as you like. Sorry for the delay in screenings, a person has gone missing from the face of the Earth.

This week's screening is at 7 o clock on Friday in GLT1. To even know what the screening is you must be a member of the society as it is a 'private screening' and we don't want any legal trouble. If you have joined the society but have for some reason not been recieving our weekly e-mails, please e-mail jem29@kent.ac.uk

Kent Film now has a radio show! Listen to President Pete Wilson, Vice President Matt Lees and 'new guy' Adam Porter talk about films every Friday at half past 6 on Canterbury Student Radio. You can access this either through csrfm.com or by listening to 97.4 FM if you're in the Kent area.

Every week we run down the latest film news and reviews, we've got some catching up to do for the first few weeks so this weeks show will primarily address Casino Royale and its effect on the Bond franchise.

It's February and Kent Film are on their third website of the year, why you may ask... reasons are many but our last one, which we'd spent a long time waiting for, was essentially just not working for us. So here we are, with six weeks left until the end of term, back to using a mere blog. But it'll do for now.
